YUP, WE STARTED IN A POOL HOUSE
In 2012, Forrest (Owner, Founding Father, you know him and love him) started building the foundation of The Young American Salon while cutting hair in his parent's backyard. And yes, the salon is named after the David Bowie song!
As with any growing idea, more space was needed to fulfill the vision of a salon for like-minded stylists to come together. After finding our first spot purely by chance, Forrest signed a lease and put in a lot of construction work with his dad Paul (we love Paul!!). The Young American opened its doors in February of 2014 in Old Town Tustin, California. Since then, three more locations have been opened, and have been home to many talented stylists and staff members over the years.
Old Town Tustin
Our flagship location in Old Town Tustin has been a staple in Orange County since we opened its doors. There's something really special about this location. We can't really explain it, but if you're a local you know what we mean. Even if you're not a local, this spot makes you feel like one.

SOUTHERN LOCAL
Southern Local was born out of a need for more space, and a desire to continue to collect like-minded stylists in the same work space. Sometimes the two Tustin spots get confused (they are less than a mile away from each other), but each has developed its own unique personality with the stylists that work at each one.

Okay, we know what you're thinking: Why are there 3 salons in Orange County and 1 in Indiana? We promise it will make sense. When the great shutdown of 2020 happened, everyone's priorities shifted. Forrest and his wife moved to Indiana and bought a house to be closer to her family. After being there for a while and doing hair out of their basement, Forrest and Sam decided they wanted to bring the same Young American vibes to their small town of Crown Point, Indiana. The rest is history!

VILLA PARK
Villa Park was a beast in its own right to tame. Located in the main shopping center of Villa Park, we took over a two-suite salon in need of a lot of love. To make it a little easier, we split the construction in two - one side we did hair on, while the other side went under a big facelift. And then we swapped. It was a lot of work, but we think the result has been well worth it!
